Allison deFreese has led literary translation workshops for the Oregon Society of Translators and Interpreters since 2017-2018 and served as OSTI's conference chair for the past 5 years. Because learning is a lifelong process and language access and equity are important, Allison has been coordinating Spanish language literacy courses for adult learners in Oregon since the 2004-2005 school year. Her recent poetry translations include Verónica González Arredondo's Green Fires of the Spirits (Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla's University Press, Libros BUAP, Mexico, 2022) and I Am Not That Body (Not a Pipe Publishing, 2024), Carolina Esses' Winter Season (Entre Ríos Books, 2023), Luciana Jazmín Coronado's Dinner at Las Heras  (C&R Press, 2024), and Karla Marrufo's The City Within You (Cathexis Press, 2024).

Paul is a skilled Spanish/English Interpreter and Translator with extensive experience bridging cultures and building communities. Beyond translating words, he brings cultural sensitivity to his work to establish trust between people. With many years of experience living and working in Mexico, Nicaragua, and Paraguay, and working in non-profit organizations in the United States that serve the Latinx community, he has developed a rich vocabulary in Spanish in various specialties, including law, government, politics, religious and nonprofit organizations, engineering, business, health care, and music. He is also trained as a Community Mediator through Resolutions Northwest, giving him sensitivity to nonverbal communication and the ability to see meaning beyond words. Paul is bicultural, feeling equally at ease at his homes in Portland, Oregon, and Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. In Paul’s free time, he likes to sing, support immigrants’rights, and deepen his spirituality

Romina Espinosa (Lima, Peru) is a translator and interpreter passionate about language access. She holds degrees from UC San Diego and the University of Oviedo in Spain. She currently works as an in-house Spanish medical interpreter for UC San Diego Health. Espinosa’s eclectic portfolio includes: publishing pieces in San Diego Poetry Annual, terp.app, ATS Scholar, and The Linguist; speaking at conferences; translations for non-profits and literary authors (e.g. A Proclamation for Peace: Translated for the World); simultaneous interpretation for international conferences; event/conference organizing; and serving as treasurer for the Oregon Society of Translators and Interpreters and a member of OSTI’s board of directors.

Malcolm Goldman has been involved with OSTI since 2018 when they went to an introductory workshop on literary translation as a college student.   Since then, they have completed a bachelor’s degree in German and Applied Linguistics with a literary translation as a thesis, given guest lectures in the PSU Linguistics department on translation, and published their first translation in print.   Their translations focus on 20th century philosophy, surrealism, and modern perspectives from marginalized voices.

My pronouns are she/her.  I am a white woman from Oregon whose second language is Spanish. I have worked as a community/health care interpreter in Portland since 2007; my heart also lives in two other communities I once called home: Washington DC, & Buena Vista, Cuscatlán, El Salvador. I love to travel with friends/family and play noncompetitive soccer. I do my best to “make good trouble, necessary trouble” following the call to action of the late Civil Rights leader and Georgia Congressman John Lewis.
