OSTI Membership Committee Duties

• Provide new and prospective members with information about the organization and membership
• Manage new member applications: electronic (via e-mail) and hard copies
• Send membership dues notices to new members or those up for renewal
• Welcome new OSTI members via e-mail using established template and, if possible, by phone
• Add new members to Google Group listserv
• Verify certifications of new members to maintain accurate directory (contact member if unable to verify)
• Maintain templates for standard e-mails (welcome, membership dues reminder, etc.)
• Maintain online OSTI member database (add or remove members as applicable), directory, and online application for new members
• Provide membership database statistics to Board upon request
• Match members who are interested in volunteering with tasks within the organization (with the Board’s collaboration)
• Connect new (or current) members to other members within a common language pair or those located near one another, if both are interested
• When sending e-mails to other members on behalf of Membership Committee, identify self as member of Membership Committee and sign with “[Name], OSTI Membership Committee,” omitting any business information from signature
• Monitor info@ostiweb.org and membership@ostiweb.org e-mail accounts and handle inquiries, or forward to Board as necessary
• Search member database monthly for expiring memberships and send e-mail using reminder template
• Attend board meetings when possible and present report on membership
• Host OSTI booth at events when available
• Promote OSTI in the community when possible; provide information on membership benefits and application process

• Time commitment: Varies. Commitment increases with new member applications, inquiries, membership renewals, and events hosted or tabled by OSTI. In general, members of the committee can anticipate a commitment of about 2 to 10 hours monthly.
