-Curious about Individualized Education Program (IEP) and education interpreting? Interpreting for bone marrow transplant patients? Psychiatric evaluations? How to handle end of life medical interpretation encounters? Current cancer therapy options? Self-care tips? Poetry translation?

Yes! Allison and Romina have experience in diverse translation and interpretation fields.

This is a free event and everyone is welcome!

You can arrive whenever you like!

    Description

For interpreters, conversations involving palliative care, especially those at end of life, can be among the most difficult to convey - not only linguistically and culturally, but personally. This seven-hour workshop is designed for preparing experienced medical interpreters in palliative care settings. The major messages participants will take away: Palliative care is a distinct and rapidly expanding area of medicine with which all interpreters should be familiar. Palliative care conversations present unique challenges for interpreters that require specific knowledge and skills to overcome. Through study and reflective practice, interpreters can expand their knowledge and improve both their interpreting skills and comfort level related to interpreting in palliative care settings.

Start time: Please arrive at 8:30am. Class will start at 9:00am. Ends at 5:00pm with one hour for lunch. The cafeteria will be open or attendees can bring their own lunch. A light snack will be provided in the morning and afternoon.

Cost: $50 for non-OSTI members, $40, for OSTI members

Registration is open to 25 people maximum, 5 minimum.
